چکیده

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is an imaging modality which reconstructs the impedance distribution of a closed domain using the measured boundary voltage data when injecting current [1-6]. It has been applied to numerous industrial applications such as: process tomography [7], nondestructive testing [8], imaging biological cells [9], medical imaging equipment [4] etc. Among them, non-destructive testing (NDT) of a structures is one of the important issues to evaluate their safety level [10]. Specially, crack and delamination of the structure such as a pipe, concrete and system component must be detected and monitored in the nuclear power plant and high level radioactive waste repository site. Multi-frequency conductivity and permittivity information can provide the improved crack identification in the complex structure including many cracks and rebar. In this study, we introduced some simulation and experiment results for a phantom to check its feasibility of non-destructive crack detection.

Electrical Impedance Tomographic Methods for Sensing Strain Fields and Crack Damage in Cementitious Structures

Cement-based composites (for example, concrete) are brittle materials that crack when loaded in tension. Current strategies for crack detection are primarily based upon visual inspection by an inspector; such approaches are labor-intensive and expensive. Direly needed are sensors that can be included within a structural health monitoring (SHM) system for automated quantification of crack damage...

Chirp and Multi-frequency Eddy Current Non-destructive Evaluation

This paper describes an eddy current (EC) based non-destructive testing system used for experimental verification of optimized chirp signal. The time-frequency content of the EC driving signal is synthesized with respect to material properties. We are expecting an improvement in sensitivity of crack and corrosion detection.

Electrical Resistance Tomography Imaging of Concrete

Cracking and deterioration of concrete are the leading causes of a premature failing of reinforced concrete structures. To assess the condition of concrete, a variety of destructive and non-destructive testing methods have been developed. From these two methods, the non-destructive testing (NDT) is a more favorable (albeit more challenging) option since the tested target is left undamaged. The ...

System Description and First Application of an FPGA-Based Simultaneous Multi-Frequency Electrical Impedance Tomography

A new prototype of a multi-frequency electrical impedance tomography system is presented. The system uses a field-programmable gate array as a main controller and is configured to measure at different frequencies simultaneously through a composite waveform. Both real and imaginary components of the data are computed for each frequency and sent to the personal computer over an ethernet connectio...
